- PendingFell 1 x self-sown, early-mature Beech (Fagus sylvatica) located towards the south of Nos. 18 and 19 Holly Meadows. Reasons for works: The tree is not part of any planting scheme, it sits incidentally within a historic avenue of veteran lime trees. It is not in keeping with the avenue and detracts from its visual amenity and the historic character of the designed landscape. It also casts shade and competes for light, moisture and nutrients with the veteran lime trees, and its continued growth will progressively suppress their crowns. Removal is recommended to release the veteran limes from competition, in line with recognised veteran tree management practice. Removing it at this stage, before it reaches full maturity, minimises loss of amenity and limits disturbance to the limes? roots compared with felling a larger tree in future. The canopy gap will be left to natural regeneration from the suppressed trees nearby.15 Holly Meadows Winchester Hampshire SO22 5FQReceived 11 Oct 2026Trees26/02104/TPO4.93 km from centreWinchester council
- ApprovedWe have already consulted a tree surgeon we know and trust (Joe Platt) who has recommended the following tree work: Tree work/pollarding: Coxs Yard: 1. Sick ash on road (boughs drop off in winds) tree surgeon thinks this is a priority to cut down as there is risk of boughs falling into right of way road. 2. V tall conifer situated next to above sick rowan on corner of 3 Church Lane house driveway/coxs yard. Tree surgeon believes that when the sick rowan comes down the additional light and space will encourage growth plus new exposure to winds may mean it will be buffeted by wind. Trees in garden: 1. Dead miniature rowan - Tree surgeon thinks this should be cut down. 2. Ok miniature rowan - ditto. 3. Sick Cherry tree (boughs drop off in winds). Tree surgeon says that it has rot and should be cut down. 4. Sick Poplar (boughs drop off in winds). Tree surgeon thinks there is fair amount of dead wood and that it should be cut down. Removal of wood: A)Garden trees: boughs/trunks from the garden trees will be chopped up and left along the fence at the bottom of garden. Any woodchip can be scattered in woodland below her garden. B) Coxs Yard ash/conifer. Trees will be woodchipped and scattered in woodland below her garden.3 Church Lane Littleton Winchester Hampshire SO22 6QYReceived 04 Oct 2026Decided 26 Oct 2026Trees26/02053/TPC3.25 km from centreWinchester council

- PendingTree: T1 Mature Beech (Fagus sylvatica) Proposed works: Reduce selected overextended lateral limbs on the side of the crown overhanging the neighbouring property by up to 5 metres, pruning back to suitable secondary growth points within the inner canopy. The 5 m measurement represents the maximum reduction to the longest overextended limbs only and is not intended as a uniform 5 m reduction across the entire side of the crown. Following reduction of the overextended limbs, blend and reshape the surrounding canopy to maintain a natural and balanced crown profile. The finished crown spread on the reduced side will be approximately 8 metres. Crown lift to approximately 4 metres above ground level, achieved through the selective removal/reduction of secondary and tertiary branches only. No primary scaffold limbs are proposed for removal as part of the crown lift. The overall height of the tree and the crown on the tree-owners side will remain unchanged. All pruning cuts to be no greater than approximately 70 mm diameter, with works undertaken to suitable pruning points and in accordance with BS 3998:2010 Tree Work Recommendations. Reason for works: To reduce the excessive lateral extension of the crown over the neighbouring property, improve clearance beneath the canopy and manage the tree?s relationship with the adjoining property while retaining the overall size, form and amenity value of the mature Beech.4 Middle Orchard Kings Worthy Winchester Hampshire SO23 7FPReceived 30 Sept 2026Trees26/02036/TPO3.58 km from centreWinchester council

- PendingWe would like to apply to have the crown lifted on a Yew tree, (number 194421 on the plan), that overhangs the school's boundary from the grounds neighboring Hinton House due to health and safety concerns and recent incidents involving primary school aged children scratching their heads and faces on the low hanging branches that encroach into the children's play area. We would like to apply to have the crown of the tree lifted to a height of 3 meters from ground level on the school's side of the boundary in order to create a safer head height beneath it that will help to prevent any further similar incidents from occurring in the future. - ApprovedG1 Hawthorn and Elder Group TPO Works Justification The group comprises predominantly Hawthorn and Elder and is heavily overgrown and extensively dominated by Ivy. The vegetation appears to have historically functioned more as a managed hedgerow or screening feature rather than a formal line of individual trees and has subsequently been allowed to become unmanaged. The group is now so heavily encumbered by Ivy that it is not reasonably practicable to remove or cut out the Ivy whilst retaining the existing branch structure. The Ivy dominates and obscures the underlying branch framework and, as a result, it was difficult to accurately identify the individual tree species and assess the original structure of the group. The proposed works are therefore to reduce and face back the overhanging growth over the garden boundary, removing the excessive Ivy-laden growth and encroachment into the garden whilst retaining sufficient live growth to maintain the established screening function. The intention is not to remove the group, but to undertake proportionate management to bring the vegetation back into a manageable condition, whilst retaining its existing contribution to visual amenity, screening and privacy. The works will also help prevent further encroachment and allow the group to be more appropriately managed in the future. All works will be undertaken in accordance with BS3998:2010 ? Tree Work Recommendations, with cuts made to suitable growth points wherever practicable and with care taken to retain the principal stems and viable live growth.3 Rowan Close South Wonston Winchester Hampshire SO21 3JAReceived 18 Aug 2026Decided 21 Oct 2026Trees26/01717/TPO0.52 km from centreWinchester council

- ApprovedT1 Mature Beech (Protected by Tree Preservation Order) Proposed Works: Reduce the third western lateral limb by approximately 3m (from 8m to 5m) to reduce end-weight and leverage. Reduce the first eastern lateral limb, which originates immediately above a historic occluded pruning wound, by approximately 3m (from 10m to 7m), using pruning cuts not exceeding 75mm diameter. Reduce the southern canopy overhanging the public highway by approximately 2.5m (from 10m to 7.5m). Reduce the south-western upper lateral canopy by approximately 2m to shorten the overextended branch. Lightly reshape and blend the remaining extremities of the crown where necessary to create a balanced canopy profile in accordance with the above reductions. Crown lift tertiary growth foliage in line with the crown fork, this to allow light down into the understory Arboricultural Justification: The Beech occupies a prominent position immediately adjacent to the public highway and has recently experienced branch failures, indicating an increased likelihood of further limb failure associated with extended lateral growth and elevated end-weight. The proposed pruning seeks to reduce mechanical loading on the principal scaffold limbs, particularly those exhibiting excessive extension and historic pruning defects, thereby lowering the risk of future branch failure over the highway. The works are limited in extent, will retain the tree's natural form and amenity value, and represent appropriate cyclical management in accordance with the recommendations of BS3998:2010 Tree Work Recommendations.Byways 7 Campion Way Kings Worthy Winchester Hampshire SO23 7QPReceived 28 Jul 2026Decided 07 Sept 2026Trees26/01554/TPO3.64 km from centreWinchester council

- Approved(amended)The mature Sycamore tree located within the rear garden has grown to a size where several branches are now overhanging and directly encroaching upon the roof of the property. There is increasing concern that continued growth and branch movement, particularly during periods of high winds or adverse weather, could result in damage to roof tiles, guttering, fascia's and other roof structures. In addition, ongoing contact between branches and the roof has the potential to cause abrasion and long-term deterioration of roofing materials, leading to avoidable maintenance costs and potential water ingress. localised 2-3 metre crown reduction to ensure a 3 metre clearance from the house. remove the lower northerly branch facing the house ensuring pruning wounds do not exceed 50mm diameter.6 Kingswood Lane Kings Worthy Winchester Hampshire SO23 7XTReceived 14 Jul 2026Decided 07 Sept 2026Trees26/01462/TPO2.83 km from centreWinchester council

- ApprovedT6 - Yew tree Height 18m to reduce to no less than 15m, radial spread 11m to reduce to no less than 8m. Arboricultural Justification: To undertake a sympathetic crown reduction in accordance with BS3998:2010 to maintain the tree at a sustainable size relative to its growing environment and reducxe end-weight thoughout the crown. The works will lessen mechanical loading on extnded limbs, improve the tree's long-term structural integrity, and reduce the liklihood of branch failure during adverse weather conditions. The propsoed reduction will retain the tree's natural form and amenity value whilst establishing an appropriate management cycle for this mature specimen. T7 - Sycamore to take back to source the first 4no branches at 35mm stem diameter Arboricultural Justification: To remove four small lower branches by pruning bak to source. The works are minor in nature and intended to improve canopy structure and provide appropriate clearance beneath the crown. The proposed pruning involves the removal of small diameter branches only and will not adversely affect the health or stability of the tree. - ApprovedT1 Sycamore - The Sycamore is of poor structural form due to historic heavy pollarding. The tree is suppressed by adjacent vegetation and is exhibiting poor vitality as it competes for available light. Surface roots are causing displacement of paving slabs and are encroaching upon the drainage infrastructure. Due to its declining condition, limited long-term amenity value, and ongoing damage to surrounding hard surfaces and drainage, permission is sought to Fell. T2 Lime Historically pollard Lime tree. To re-pollard by removing approximately 6 metres of upper crown regrowth, returning the tree to established pollard points. Crown lift epicormic regrowth to a height of approximately 10 metres, up to the principal fork union. The proposed works will maintain the tree within its historic management regime, reduce end-weight on regenerated limbs, and ensure continued sustainable retention. Permission is requested for cyclical re-pollarding and maintenance works and epicormic regrowth. T3 Horse Chestnut To crown lift over the northern highway by up to 10 metres through the removal of tertiary growth only, with pruning cuts not exceeding 30mm in diameter. Additionally, on the first southern bow, selectively reduce overextended secondary and tertiary branches projecting above the driveway by up to 2.5 metres, as indicated in the accompanying photograph. The works are proposed to improve clearance, increase light penetration through the canopy, and reduce the visual dominance of the overextended branch structure whilst retaining the tree's natural form and amenity value. T4 Lime To crown lift epicormic regrowth to approximately 10 metres above ground level, up to the main fork union. The works will improve clearance beneath the canopy and maintain the tree within its established management regime. Permission is requested for ongoing cyclical maintenance. - WithdrawnT1 Lime sp. to pollard at 10m first fork. The proposal is therefore a risk-management measure intended to retain the tree rather than remove it. T2 Horse Chestnut Reduce the height of the Horse Chestnut sp. approximately 22 metres to no less than 17 metres and reduce the radial canopy spread from approximately 18 metres to no less than 14 metres, maintaining a natural crown form and suitable growth points throughout. Remove the first and second southern lateral limbs back to their points of origin (maximum pruning wound diameter approximately 150 mm). T3 Lime sp. Remove the first two western lateral branches back to their points of origin (maximum pruning wound diameter approximately 40 mm). Where permission is obtained from the adjoining landowner, the branches will be removed back to their points of origin. e. T4 Maple sp. Selectively reduce the northern lateral crown spread by approximately 2?3 metres on the lower radial branches and by approximately 1?2 metres within the upper crown canopy, pruning to suitable secondary growth points in accordance with BS3998:2010 Tree Work ?
